so I got a new car...
Monday morning, as I was on my way to work, my car suddenly lost power while driving on I-85. The radio faded out, every light on my dashboard came on and then dimmed, and, most importantly, the car started slowing down. A lot. I was able to make it to the next exit and pulled off onto the side of the road before I completely lost power. Cursing the fact that I had power windows (which were now stuck in the "down" position), I took the two most valuable things from my car (my laptop and the stereo faceplate), called work to tell them I wouldn't be in, and tried to figure out what to do.
Since I don't really have a mechanic or anything (never having needed any major repairs since I moved to Atlanta), I wasn't sure what to do. I did, however, take note that I'd broken down about 500 feet away from carmax, and figured they had a service department, so I walked over there to, at the very least, make a decision inside a nice air-conditioned building.
Long story short, I wound up buying a new car instead of getting my other one fixed. The guy they use for towing happened to be there, and towed my car in for only $20. Carmax offered me a pretty good deal on my broken-down car, and several hours later, I drove out in a new (to me) 2000 Cavalier. It met the following strict "Jake new car" requirements:

- It has Air Conditioning
- It has cruise control
- It has lower milage (~25000 miles)
- It was relatively inexpensive
